Blogging Tips

I have covered blogging tips earlier, but this is from a different angle, i.e from someone who took a long break!

Here are some essential tips for the newbie, intermediate or advanced blogger!

Write your goals and determine why you want to blog in the first place, especially if you are blogging for business. Personal blogs are more like diaries, so they are usually a case of whenever and whatever. However, you would still need to ascertain some form of personal goal; why? who? what? and when?

It’s great to be able to write “search engine content” regularly. I mean it would be pure bliss to be able to entertain, educate and inform visitors on a daily basis. However, if this is not possible, don’t beat yourself  up and burn yourself out in your quest to see extremely high stats. Blogging Professionals will tell you to try and blog every other day if possible, but do what is right for you. Refer back to your goals if need be as this would keep you on track.

Blogging in advance is ideal if  you have a busy lifestyle. This allows you to research and write topics once a week, ensuring you have content every day. This is more the case for business blogs. Personal blogs work better by having daily entries or at least three or four times a week.

Another blogging tip is, do not leave long dates  between entries. Ok, I did. I have since learnt the error of my ways! Since I will be setting up a new business soon, it is essential to keep the lines of communication open between myself and prospective customers.  I have seen many online businesses that have brilliant websites, but their last entry of their blog is dated 6 months ago. Would I believe them if they say they keep abreast of the latest technology? Mmm, perhaps not.

Outsource the writing blogs to a writing agency or advertise on Craigslist. You can hire a blogger to write for around $5 to $10 an entry. There are some sites that even advertise for around $1 for a blog entry. Please note, that cheap is not always best. I used a site that offered cheap writing and had my fingers burnt very badly. I spent a whole weekend re-writing shoddy work!

Lastly, blogging should not be a chore, but should have a certain element of enjoyment attached to it. If you find that blogging is lacking the fullfillment it  once had or should have, or that it has completely taken over your life, then  it is time to rethink your goals. I was very passionate and still am about blogging, but when blogging began to control my life, it became a chore. I found myself researching/ blogging every spare minute I had. Not good.

And so endeth my blogging tips.
